Importance Low back pain (LBP) is responsible for more than 2.5 million visits to US emergency departments (EDs) annually. These patients are usually treated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, acetaminophen, opioids, or skeletal muscle relaxants, often in combination.

U.S. District Judge Martin Reidinger Dec. 16 sentenced Jackie Lee Rattler, 55, of Cherokee, to 108 months in prison on drug trafficking conspiracy charges, according to U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina Anne Tompkins.
Rattler was also ordered to serve three years under court supervision upon completion of his prison term.
