Search warrant shows Brisbon had cash, oxycodone pills on him – AZFamily

PHOENIX — The search warrant reveals more about the Valley man whose killing by police has prompted days of protest.

Rumain Brisbon was not holding a weapon when he was shot and killed by a Phoenix police officer Dec. 2. Police said they were responding to a call about possible drug deals out of a black Cadillac Escalade.

“From the available information right now,” Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery said, “the suggestion is that the officer believed that, with his hand over the top of the other suspect’s hand, that the suspect’s hand was on the handle of a revolver or a pistol.”

The search warrant shows Brisbon was carrying a large prescription bottle filled with 85 blue oxycodone pills. The search turned up $831 on Brisbon and another $16,000 in the apartment he shared with his girlfriend.

There was more evidence collected from the Escalade Brisbon was reportedly driving that night. Police found a black Ruger handgun and two containers of marijuana along with more oxycodone pills.

Brisbon’s friends have said he wasn’t a drug dealer.

“We’re talking about an everyday person just like me and you and you out there,” said one man inside a church before Tuesday’s protest march. “Man went to go get some McDonald’s for his kids.”

Supporters plan to keep the pressure on Phoenix police and the county attorney for an indictment of the officer who shot Brisbon. Montgomery said they will look at all the evidence.

“I’m going to wait until we have all the information,” Montgomery said. “I don’t want anyone to think that I prejudged it.”

Officer Mark Rine is on paid administrative leave pending the investigation. He is a seven-year veteran of the department.
