ALBANY >> A local doctor is facing federal charges for alleged illegal distribution of oxycodone.
Dr. Jeffrey Gundel, of Ganesvoort, was charged Tuesday, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Richard S. Hartunian and James Hunt, the acting special-agent-in-charge of the New York division of the Drug Enforcement Administration. He was released on conditions after making an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Christian F. Hummel.
If convicted, Gundel faces up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $1 million and a term of supervised release.
Gundel practices out of Gundel Orthapedics in Ganesvoort and is listed as a surgeon at Glens Falls Hospital with an office at Adirondack Orthapedics & Professional Sports Consult on Maple Avenue in Saratoga Springs. In December, it was announced that Gundel would also be seeing patients at Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville.
