HAMDEN >> A 22-year-old New Haven man was arrested Wednesday evening after trying to redeem a prescription for 90 Oxycodone pills, police said.

Daronne Gibson, 22, of 622 Winchester Ave., was charged with illegally obtaining a prescription and third-degree forgery, said Capt. Ronald Smith in a press release. Police had responded to the Rite Aid Pharmacy at 2175 Dixwell Ave. after receiving a complaint of a fraudulent prescription. An investigation revealed Gibson had allegedly tried to redeem the prescription, Smith said.

Smith said in the release that Gibson had left the pharmacy before officers arrived. He was later found laying in the back of his car in a nearby shopping plaza parking lot.

Gibson was held in lieu of $5,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Meriden Feb. 26.
