A Woodland man, who was out of jail on bail in two counties, was arrested again Tuesday in Yuba City, along with another man, during a traffic stop in which police seized methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, hashish, Oxycodone pills, as well as a billy club, a scale, a stolen credit card, and counterfeit cash.
Thomas Orville Clarke, of Woodland, and Yuba City’s Lovejeet Singh Johl were booked into the Sutter County Jail on various felony charges after both men tried to flee from a police traffic stop around 7 p.m., Lt. Tom Tappe said.
“Clarke had a counterfeit bill and a stolen credit card in his possession,” Tappe said. “Johl was found to have a billy club and a backpack containing suspected drugs and other indications of suspected drug sales.”
Investigators seized 20 grams of marijuana, 14 prescriptions of Oxycodone pain killers, six grams of methamphetamine, two grams of hashish and half a gram of cocaine, as well as a small measurement scale, Tappe said.
Clarke, 26, was out on bail on in Yolo and Siskiyou counties on charges in early March involving domestic violence and possession of weapons and drugs, according to booking records.
He was booked on fresh charges of possession of a forged check, possession of a stolen credit card and resisting police. His new bail was set at $65,000.
Johl, 36, was jailed on suspicion of weapon possession, possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of cocaine, transporting marijuana for sale, resisting police and reckless driving. His bail was set at $30,000.
Police received a reckless driving report from a citizen around 7 p.m. and stopped a red 1999 Ford Ranger a short time later.
The driver, later identified as Johl, pulled over at Colusa Frontage Road and George Washington Boulevard where Clarke bailed out and tried to run from police, but was quickly arrested, Tappe said.
Johl also took off in the truck, but quickly pulled over again after crossing Highway 20, police said.
Both men were still in custody Wednesday.
